A Breath of Snow and Ashes“, is the sixth installment in Diana Gabaldon‘s best selling Outlander series. An epic historical saga which follows the adventures of the Fraser family, which include Jaime a heroic Scottish highlander and his wife Claire, a 20th century nurse who time travelled to 18th century Scotland.

“A Breath of Snow and Ashes”, is set in 1772, with Jaime and Claire having emigrated from Scotland to the United States of America. Drama unfolds on the eve of the American Revolution, as the Governor orders Jaime to safeguard the colony for King and Crown. Unfortunately for Jaime, Claire who was born and raised in the 20th century is well aware of the fact that the revolutionaries are destined to be victorious and that in three years, all those who fought for the monarchy will either be exiled or killed. Worse yet, is a news clipping from 1776 that reports Jaime’s untimely death! “A Breath of Snow and Ashes”, asks the question, is history doomed to repeat itself or can Jaime escape his fate?

If you’re a fan of Diana Gabaldon’s work primarily for her tales of romance, you won’t be disappointed by “A Breath of Snow and Ashes”, which features just as much romance and swoon worthy lines as the last five installments of the Outlander series. If you’ve fallen in love with Jaime and Claire’s epic love story, you won’t be disappointed. However, “A Breath of Snow and Ashes”, is also a gripping, page turner which features action, adventure, war and death. Thanks to Gabaldon’s excellent writing and detailed descriptions, you’ll feel just as if you’ve been transported to the dangerous dawn of the American Revolution. So if you’re a fan of the Outlander series for it’s historical settings, you won’t be disappointed either.
