Hang The DJ by “Duane Bruce”

Hang The DJThe true and sometimes crazy stories of influential 80s/90s DJ Duane Bruce, as he takes Boston radio by storm….drug-fueled hijinks ensue, as he helps big name bands, singers, actors and comedians find their place in the market and the world.

This is the story of a quest to help ‘break’ new music in New England 1982-1995. From humble beginnings at an AOR radio station in Maine, to the big city of Boston where he was the first commercial DJ to play Nirvana. Stories include meeting with Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, The Beastie Boys, Jane’s Addiction and more artists of all types, including run ins with Stephen King and Hunter Thompson. Other tales tell what life was like as a radio personality in both a small, and later a large market, on a daily basis, as he fights for his right to party, work and make some history.

Darker aspects include the dangers of working an all-night radio show in the Boston suburb of Lynn, a well known crime-ridden city that was in complete turmoil during his time there. There is blood shed, violent crime, multiple deaths and a mystery puddle. All of this going on outside of the building, until it leaks inside. It’s the highs and lows of the everyday life of a radio DJ. The funny, the sad, the ridiculous and sometimes frustrating stories are told with a sense of purpose and honesty. This is far from WKRP in Cincinnati.
