Lost in the Reflecting Pool: a memoir

A memoir and a psychological love story, Lost in the Reflecting, reads like a novel. It is a true story of one woman’s struggle to survive within, and ultimately break free from, an emotionally abusive marriage to a malignant narcissist.

When Diane, a psychologist, fell in love with Charles, a charming and brilliant psychiatrist, there was laughter and flowers―and also darkness. After moving through infertility treatments and the trials of the adoption process as a united front, the couple was ultimately successful in creating a family. As time went on, however, Charles became increasingly critical and controlling, and Diane began to feel barraged and battered. When she was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer, all of any remaining caring vanished and was replaced by withdrawal, anger, and unfathomable sadism, gaslighting, and betrayals. What Diane previously ignored or thought were just Charles’ controlling ways she was able to see as his clear pathologic narcissism. The emotional abuse turned venomous at the very hour of her greatest need.
