What makes this particular genre you are involved in so special?
I enjoy fiction projects with a hint a realism. Sci fi with action and I like to use real life subjects to bring life to my characters
How important is research to you when writing a book?
I would think it depends how much knowledge you have on the subject you’re writing on.
What works A common misconception entwined with authors is that they are socially inept, how true is that?
That is far from the truth. I am very active and like being around people even if the crowd is large.
Do all authors have to be grammar Nazis?
I don’t believe you have to be perfect. I do believe you need have a strong passion about writing if your going to pursue it as a career.
If you could have been the original author of any book, what would it have been and why?
I would have been the original author for the book and tv cartoon series Captain Bucky Ohare. I would have made the series longer. When I was growing up the show went off TV and I was disappointed. I know there were other kids like me growing up, so I figured I would create my own someday.
best for you: Typewriters, fountain pen, dictate, computer or longhand?
Longhand and computers work best for me.
When did it dawn upon you that you wanted to be a writer?
I would be sitting a daydreaming about stories. I wouldn’t be able to think about anything else other than the story until its out of my head. I begin to write short stories and begin to stay up late in the night writing. When I am started to write at night and I wrote until sunrise and I was happy about it. I knew I wanted to be a writer.
What inspires you to write?
I write because I enjoy writing. I also write because I get stories in my head and I must get them out.
How often do you write?
I write 5 days a week and I generally read what I’ve written over the weekend. Then I start the process again.
Do you have a set schedule for writing, or are you one of those who write only when they feel inspired?
I generally write before noon and start again before sunset. Sometimes I write until the morning.
How hard was it to sit down and actually start writing something?
The hard part is figuring out where to being. Sometimes I will just write and come back to the introduction later. Even if its bad at least if I get down on paper I know what steps I need to take.
Do you aim to complete a set number of pages or words eachIday?
I aim to complete something working towards whatever book project I am working on.
Writers are often associated with loner tendencies;is there any truth to that?I like people and enjoy my friends and family. I wouldn’t say that I am a loner.
Do you think writers have a normal life like others?
Yes, I do. I believe were all have a family and people we care about.
Do you set a plot or prefer going wherever an idea takes you?
I tend to set up many avenues in which the story can take.
What, according to you, is the hardest thing about writing?
The hardest part for me sometimes can be ending because I generally don’t want my stories to end.
What would you say is the easiest aspect of writing?
The characters and giving them a voice.
Have you ever experienced “Writer’s Block”? How long do they usually last?
It doesn’t happen when I am working on a book but on other projects hits me like a rock. It will take days and I will need to find inspiration for the topic.
Any tips you would like to share to overcome it?
Never stop trying to learn more about writing and techniques to improve your skills.
Do you read much and if so who are your favorite authors?
I often read. I have been reading a lot of William Shakespeare. I like James Cameron a lot.
Over the years, what would you say has improved significantly in your writing?
I would say that my storytelling has gotten better over the years.
